How the mighty hath fallen
WTF happened to Dennis Miller? There was a time when he was as cool as it gets. I own all of his Rant books from his HBO series in hardback and reread them frequently. I even liked his work on MNF, though it didn't surprise me that many football fans did not. Then 9/11 came and he lost his mind, turned to the dark side, and became an apologist for the bush administration on one of the conservative networks.

I was in the gym earlier this week when I saw he was hosting some gameshow on network TV. In looking up the name of the show, I found out in addition to still appearing in small segments on conservative TV he also does a radio show now, that BTW isn't carried in the DC market. The nearest channel that carries it is 1200 AM out of Leesburg. At least they have streaming capability, so I may give it a listen. On the other hand, maybe it's just better to remember him as he was and pretend that he is dead rather than just his career.

I've caught bits of it on the radio out here at night - he seems to still be willing to take shots at both sides, but I've not had a chance to sit and listen to an entire show.

Usually the minute the radio comes on here I try to tune it out completely, cause my grandmother's station of choice is VERY right wing - I think Dennis Miller is probably the most liberal of all of them.

I watched a couple episodes of his MSNBC show a few years back. He had very little of the funny bite he was known for on HBO or SNL, or even his standup from the 80s. One segment he did every show was a panel discussion. He'd have some conservatives of the caliber of Bill Kristol, and then some liberals like the local ASPCA chief of San Luis Obispo. Gee, who do you think looked like the sophisticated intellectual there?

I even own his Off White Album. Sad.
