My day in summation:
Rt. 211 from Sperryville to Thornton Gap.View Larger Map
What conditions warrant the sign? Gravel? Limited sight distance?
It's very steep and very curvy.
I tried to embed a map. The part with all the curves east of Panorama is the part to which the sign applies. Not only are the curves wicked, the elevation changes about 1200 feet.

In other words with no crashes it's one hell of a ride?
That is correct. It is a blast going uphill and a challenge going down. We went east to west (uphill), then went back down, then I took the GS and did it again both ways, then we rode up and onto Skyline Drive, and ultimately back down on the way home.
Which GS do you have again?
I know you've posted it before but I've slept since then.
That is an '05 F650GS (AKA, The Little One). I sat on a lowered suspension R1200GS this week, and it is still a bit much for me to get on and off comfortably, though I could ride it with no problem.
The confusing thing is, they stopped making my F650GS in 2007. For 2009 there is a completely different bike also called the F650GS. I have no idea why they did this. For one thing, the new one has an 800cc engine. ???
I still want one, but I wish they'd called it something else.
I'd just looked at the BMW webpage but didn't notice the displacement. That doesn't make sense to have two bikes with 798cc, call one a 650, and charge 2k less for it.
Where's the warning sign for cars? I spun out on that section on ice on Groundhog Day.
Sad sad sad that I've been up there enough that I knew where the photo was taken before I read the caption.
That picture is a frameable.
Can you say, "wallpaper at work"?
Lucky bastard. (Yeah, those map embeds don't work, but the links do.)
Yeah, I've been on that in a car and it was sorta crazy. I can only imagine (as I will never drive it) what it's like on a motorcycle.
Sad to say, but the thing that has me really excited about this awesome picture? THE BEARD IS BACK! Last photo I've seen of you was when you nicked it and had to shave it off.
