follow up on the "party"
So I considered brinkmanship and making a stand, or just ignoring the thing, but decided I'd play nice. It was scheduled from 1130-1330 in the largest conference room at HQ, so I arrived about 1215 so I'd miss out on a good amount of the cutesy stuff but still get credit for coming. I sat with my team and chatted a bit. My team lead thanked me for coming (not making her look bad to management both govvie and company was a major factor in going). Ten minutes later I was called to the front to receive one of half a dozen individual recognition awards signed by the agency CISO and CIO. I wasn't expecting it, but as soon as the CISO started reading it I put away my blackberry and made sure my shirt was tucked in because I could tell from the description that it was either going to be for me or for someone taking credit for my work.

I like how you put that. Even more how I know there's no hubris, just statement of fact.

I am the only person in the division who performs the two tasks cited, so it was definitely my work. How nice that it was *me* as well.

Congrats on the award. It's nice to be recognized, better than not being recognized since you do it anyway.
