The iPhone will sync Contacts, Calendars, and Notes with Outlook 2003 or 2007. It uses iTunes as a conduit and requires you to physically connect your iPhone to your computer.

I find it much more pleasant to sync wirelessly, which you can do with Gmail or MobileMe.

What about tasks?
I've been using Outlook for years and I'm used to it.

If you use MobileMe you can get your tasks, notes and contacts to sync. If you use iTunes you can get your tasks, notes, contacts and calendar to sync.
