The business model is collapsing. I was just thinking about the movie Serenity earlier this week. Today, the Sci-Fi (don’t ask me to call it anything else) Channel was showing the movie so I tried to watch it. I say “try” because it was on an extended commercial break when I started, and went to another not long after. When they broke off for the third extended commercial break I realized the content to advertising ratio was approaching 50/50 and gave up.
The movie is available via Netflix in streaming, DVD, and Blu-ray, not to mention RedBox, bit torrent, etc.
Who is the target audience for all that advertising? Anyone who can afford at least basic cable can afford Netflix, and would probably be better served by it anyway.
