A while back, hellon2wheels
bought me a gift certificate for a one hour flying lesson and today I finally used it at Freeway Aviation
. Bowie, MD is a bit of a haul, but it is a beautiful place to fly since it is right next to Annapolis and the Bay Bridge.
It was a bit of sensory overload between the actual flying, the instruments, and the view outside. I had to have the instructor repeat part of his instruction because I suddenly noticed a screwpile lighthouse in
the main channel (further investigation has revealed it is the Thomas Point lighthouse
) that I hadn't previously known existed. I took a couple pictures of the plane exterior when we got back, but none during the flight because I was too busy. It was a Cessna 172 BTW, with all the interior style of a late 60s VW bug, though upgraded with a Garmin MX20 color multi-function display which includes GPS navigation, traffic, terrain, and weather. As you can imagine, that device alone was a major distraction.
I don't plan to spend the time or money to get a license anytime soon, but I would like to do an introductory type flight again and am willing to go back there to do it. Anyone who knows how much I dislike Maryland as a state will be impressed by that.
Thank you, dear.
