The Ospreys are out
‎AKA, the Osprey V-22 tiltrotor aircraft

I saw my first Osprey in the wild several months ago from my office window. Commuting home last night, I saw another. On this morning's commute, I  saw two flying together.

So far, only the Marine Corps uses them operationally. My office is about halfway between DC and the Pentagon to the north, and Quantico Marine Corps base to the south.

I'm not sure how practical they are for their intended purpose, but they are very cool. I'm bummed I couldn't see one in transitional flight, but it's probably best that they weren't doing anything too interesting while I was driving.

My brother was a flight dynamics test engineer on that program back in the 90's. He got paid to hit the aircraft with a hammer, a calibrated hammer. Interesting stories.
