Dog fatherhood
I had noticed something intermittently strange about Trouble's right eye. I couldn't get a good look at it, but I assumed it was his eyelid rolling over or something. With his brain issues many things are possible. When we got back from our evening walk I noticed it again and took a close look at it.
Somehow, he got a piece of paper in his eye socket. Once I knew that it was there‎, there was no question of leaving it there so I called the vet and took him over.
They took him in the back to try flushing it out and I settled down to wait. Less than five minutes later they brought him back out. Considering it was after 10:00 PM, I was expecting at least $100-$150. They didn't charge me anything, either because that was correct on its own or because they checked how much I've spent there in the last couple years.
It didn't seem to bother him but it sure bothered me so I'm glad it could be resolved fairly easily.

Cell phones
My Blackberry Q10 just had its two year anniversary and my contract is now month to month. There are a couple phones I'm interested in, but the big releases won't be for another month or two.
Rather than rushing to replace my current phone, I have obtained an Otterbox Defender case and holster to try to extend its useful life as far as possible. Otterbox doesn't make or sell them anymore, so it was even cheap to get a remainder.

A better title
Why do they call the program "Outrageous ‎acts of Science", when "Hold my Beer and Watch This" would be so much more accurate?

Periodic Reinvestigation
‎I have held a security clearance of some type for more than half of my life. I've lived and traveled a bit overseas and and been friends with foreigners here and abroad. As of last Tuesday I am on my fourth company for the same job I've held for ten years,  (hired, company bought, contract lost and position transferred to the winner, company bought) though I changed employers intentionally a lot more in my youth.
Reinvestigation interviews are getting longer and harder to keep everything straight through.
Someday I won't have to do this anymore.

Out geeking Adam Savage
I was just watching the episode of Mythbusters where they addressed Apollo moon landing myths. In one setup, Adam showed a scale model of an Apollo moon suit and claimed you could tell it was Neil Armstrong because of the red commander stripes on the helmet, sleeves, and legs. The purpose of the stripes was to make it easier to identify the astronauts in mission photos.
Neither Armstrong on Apollo 11, nor Pete Conrad on Apollo 12 had commander stripes on their suits. No one had realized they were necessary until the images from Apollo 11 were reviewed.Jim Lovell of Apollo 13 would have been the first to wear them on the moon if they had made a successful landing. Alan Shepard of Apollo 14 was the first to wear them on the moon.

Note that I confirmed my recollection before posting this, but my memory was correct.
